William Blake
William Blake used his late brother Robert's note book and added to it his own sketches and musings. Blake's notebook is now a highly prized Brititsh treasure that was once also in the hands of Gabriel Rossetti who saw Blake as a significant figure understood the notebook's true worth. I was fortunate enough to accompany Blake's Cottage Trust to the British Library and see Williams Blake's notebook. It was an almost sacred experience to try and decipher words and see behold the beauty of Blake's sketches.
Comparing Blake's sketch with his final print of the The Traveller Hasteth in the Evening it feels like you are looking at the very bones of the print, with its essence so nakedly present.
